about

This is a strange one, lyrically, and I have no idea where the inspiration came from, though I suspect that the refrain came first.

The lyric is interesting to me today, albeit a tad disturbing. There is definitely some sort of a psychosexual drama being played out in the verse.

This song contains several homages to other tunes, including the Begin Ending song "Tin Star Hero". Contrary to the verbal introduction, that is NOT Brett Juilly (a.k.a. "Ivory") on lead keyboard.

lyrics

Riding 'cross the desert plain tonight
Shooting past the tumbleweed my spurs go jangle jangle
You're waiting in my stall turn out the light
Coyote cries fill the air the wind kicks off a shingle

Are you afraid of my six sex shooter
I'm going to bring you to your knees

Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy

The smell of burning flesh fills the air
The stinging pain of family brands forever linger linger
The boots you wear I fill from year to year
I'd rather be a cowboy than a long hair rock and roll singer

Smoke will fill the air when comes the tin star hero (tin star hero)
Until that day I'll be your man

Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy

Happy trails to you

The dust of the land fills my eyes and ears
Can you feel the weight that the earth has laid upon me
They say out there's only steers and queers
But years have shown me visions only meant for me to see

Don't turn away while I peel you open
I like to hear my cattle scream

Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy
Treat me like a cowboy
