about

Intro'd by a John Lydon interview excerpt, and sprinkled with samples from "Reefer Madness", this song was a personal favorite. When I later produced a public access television program in San Francisco ("Cross & Skull") a music video was created for this song by my friend Steven Simpkins, shot primarily in Colma, CA.

lyrics

You think you know where I'm gonna hide
But are you sure your sources haven't lied?
Told 'em to stay, but still they followed
I tread in shit they'll soon call hallowed
Never claimed to be what they've labeled me

Don't speak to me
I'll have no more mentors
Preach to me
Converting me? I don't think so

Never wanted more than I deserve
Just simple gods a simple man could serve
When I prayed who came calling?
A manifestation slowly evolving
Never claimed to be what they've labeled me

Don't speak to me
I'll have no more mentors
Preach to me
Converting me? I don't think so

Won't close my eyes or say a prayer
There's no one listening to me up there
And if I die before I wake
You needn't worry about my fate
In the darkness the worms will crawl
Digesting what lies within my skull
And so one day you too will follow

Don't speak to me
Don't preach to me
Converting me? I don't think so

Never wanted more than I deserve
Just simple gods a simple man could serve
But when I prayed who came calling?
A manifestation slowly evolving
Still never claimed to be what they've labeled me

Don't speak to me
I'll have no more mentors
Preach to me
Converting me? I don't think so
