This song was written for and about my close friend Thomas Mays. When I wrote this song, he was going through a particularly hard time in his life. The lyric again reflects my tendency to borrow quotes from people in my life (this time from my mother).

I don't recall whether "the meadow" is of any actual significance, or whether I just thought that the words sounded pretty. When this song was later performed live, the kick drum was replaced by the recording of a beating heart before the last chorus.
