about

This was, I believe, the first song I recorded on a 4-Track that I owned (as opposed to one I borrowed). Frank Ross (a fellow band-mate) and I had bought a used Fostex X-15 tape recorder from Gelb Music, along with a $25 microphone.

Not wanting to get caught up in needless expectations of "perfection", we opted for our first multi-track recording to be an improv death metal thrasher, which, based on the off-the-cuff lyrics, became known as "Die". I find the closing lyric "ooh, why not live?" particularly endearing.

This song features my first synth/sequencer, the Sequental Circuits "Multi-Trak" on drum duty (doodie). This was about the best I could do on lead guitar at the time, and features a bizarre Muppets-like lead vocal (at tradition that lives on today).
